Updated 9 September 2026.
✈️ Compare flights and hotels →The Dutch traveller heads to the Canary Islands most often in winter: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are close to Europe, have direct flights from Eindhoven and Amsterdam, and guarantee 20 to 26 degrees almost year-round. Morocco (Marrakech, Agadir) is cheaper but slightly less certain of sunshine in winter.
Egypt (Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh) offers all-inclusive comfort. For truly tropical warmth (28 to 32 degrees) you need Curacao or the Dominican Republic, but those involve a considerably longer flight. Also read our guide for sun holiday in October 2026 or autumn holiday destinations 2026.

Smart booking tips for your winter sun holiday
- Book flight and hotel separately A standalone flight ticket via Transavia or Ryanair combined with a separately booked hotel is on average 20 to 30 percent cheaper than a package holiday. Use our search or go directly to the airline.
- Eindhoven vs. Amsterdam: always compare Transavia flies from both Eindhoven and Amsterdam Schiphol to the Canary Islands. The price difference can be 20 to 40 euros per ticket on the same date. Check both airports. Ryanair only flies from Eindhoven (EIN) to some destinations.
- Christmas holiday: book early or avoid the peak The Christmas holiday 2026 (19 December to 3 January 2027) is the most expensive period of the year for winter sun. Flights and hotels are 40 to 80 percent more expensive. Book 3 to 4 months in advance, or choose 2 weeks earlier (early December, before the holiday) or 2 weeks later (second week of January).
- Tenerife for the best sunshine guarantee Tenerife has a unique microclimate thanks to the Teide volcano (3,715 metres): when the northwest is cloudy, the sun shines in the south (Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas, Costa Adeje). Gran Canaria works similarly. Fuerteventura is flatter but drier and warmer.
- Morocco for the best price-distance ratio Agadir and Marrakech are only 3 to 3.5 hours from the Netherlands: the shortest flight to genuinely warm weather. Agadir is a typical beach destination with a 10 km beach boulevard. Marrakech is culture and palaces. Note: Marrakech in December can be cold in the evenings (10-15 degrees). Agadir stays warmer.
- Hurghada for all-inclusive comfort TUI fly goes direct from Eindhoven to Hurghada in 5 hours. All-inclusive resorts offer certainty: everything is paid for. The Red Sea is ideal for diving and snorkelling (coral reefs within 10 minutes swimming from some resorts). Hurghada is less suited for city explorers but perfect for beach relaxation.
