From 24 December 2024 to 6 January 2026, Rome hosted the Catholic Jubilee Year (Anno Santo). Millions of pilgrims visited the four major basilicas, prompting large-scale renovations of squares and metro stations and higher hotel occupancy. The infrastructure investments (including Piazza Navona and routes around San Giovanni in Laterano) are permanently visible. If you visit Rome in 2026, the busiest Jubilee months are behind you and you can enjoy the renovated sites in relative calm. Still book museums and the Colosseum well in advance: crowds remain high due to the combined appeal of Jubilee renovations and regular summer tourism.

From Schiphol (AMS) you fly to Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) in approximately 2 hours 30 minutes with KLM, ITA Airways, Vueling or easyJet. Note: there are no direct flights from Eindhoven to Rome; travellers from Brabant and Limburg connect via Schiphol or choose a hub such as Brussels or Dusseldorf. Schiphol is the most direct option.
