Free and cheap sights

  • Bunkers del Carmel: free 360-degree panorama Barcelona's finest viewpoint, used by locals who skip the touristy Tibidabo. Open daily 9am to 7.30pm, completely free. Take the metro to El Carmel and walk 15 minutes uphill.
  • Barceloneta and the city beaches: free Barcelona has 4.5 km of city beach free to visit year-round. Barceloneta is the best known; Bogatell and Nova Icaria are quieter and equally beautiful.
  • Gothic Quarter and El Born: free to walk Two of Europe's most beautiful historic neighbourhoods, explorable on foot without a ticket. El Born also has a free open excavation of the medieval Mercat de Santa Caterina in its cellars.
  • Park Guell free section The Monumental Zone of Park Guell costs €18, but the largest part of the park is free to enter, including beautiful nature and views over the city. Visit before 8am or after 6pm for the best atmosphere.
  • MNAC national museum: free half-day The National Museum of Art on Montjuic is free every Saturday after 3pm and on the first Sunday of the month. Largest collection of Romanesque art in the world.
