When is the best time to go?

May, June and September to October are ideal: 24 to 29 degrees, a warm sea and far fewer crowds than in peak season. With over 300 days of sun a year Rhodes is Greece's sunniest island; even in October it often still reaches 25 degrees. The sea is warmest in August and September (around 25 degrees). July and August are hot (regularly above 33 degrees) and the most expensive. Direct flights from the Netherlands run from April to the end of October.

• Rhodes Town The medieval Old Town behind 4 kilometres of walls is UNESCO-listed: cobbled lanes, Gothic gates and the Street of the Knights. Insider: come back in the evening once the day-trippers have left, and you have the alleys almost to yourself.
• Lindos A whitewashed village against a rock topped by its acropolis, with two bays of crystal-clear water below. The island's prettiest village, but car-free and hilly: come early or stay the night.
• Faliraki The resort with the island's longest sandy beach (4 kilometres), a water park and plenty of hotels. Fifteen minutes from Rhodes Town by KTEL bus (€2.50).
• Ixia & Ialyssos The west coast close to town: a wide pebble beach and near-constant wind, which makes it the spot for windsurfers and kitesurfers.
• Prasonisi & the south The quiet, rugged south where two seas meet on a sand spit. A kitesurfing mecca and authentic villages such as Monolithos with its knights' castle on the rock, best explored by rental car.

• Palace of the Grand Master The 14th-century castle of the Knights Hospitaller in Rhodes Town. Since Greece's ticket reform a single ticket costs €20; EU citizens under 25 enter free (2026).
• Street of the Knights Europe's best-preserved medieval street, lined with the inns of the knightly orders. Free, and almost empty early in the morning.
• Acropolis of Lindos Temple remains of Athena Lindia on a 116-metre rock above two blue bays (€20 in high season, 2026). Go before 10am or after 4pm; the climb is unshaded.
• Anthony Quinn Bay An emerald snorkelling bay near Faliraki, named after the actor who filmed The Guns of Navarone here. Free; the KTEL bus stops within walking distance (€2.50).
• Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes) A shady gorge where thousands of Jersey tiger moths rest on the tree trunks from June to September (entry around €5 in summer).

Flights + transport from the Netherlands

From Eindhoven you fly direct to Rhodes (RHO) in about 3 hours 50 with Transavia and TUI fly; in May 2026 there are 6 flights a week scheduled. From Schiphol, Transavia, Corendon and TUI fly operate direct flights in about the same time. Diagoras Airport is 14 kilometres from Rhodes Town; the bus to the centre costs about €3. From the central bus station by the Nea Agora in Mandraki, KTEL buses run down the east coast (Faliraki €2.50, Lindos €5.50, Prasonisi €10.50) and RODA buses serve the west coast. A rental car costs from about €30 per day, handy for the south.

What does a trip to Rhodes cost?

A room or studio costs from €25, mid-range hotels €60 to 110 per night. Food is affordable: a gyros €4, a taverna meal €13 to 17 and a bottle of water €1. Budget from €450 per person for a week including a direct flight. Tip: September is the smartest month, with a 25-degree sea, lower prices and still plenty of sun.
