When is the best time to go?

May to September offers the best travel climate: 20 to 28 degrees, little rain and plenty of terrace and event activity. June and September are ideal: pleasantly warm without July heat. In winter (November to March) Pristina is also worth visiting with a lively indoor city life and local camaraderie in the many coffee bars.

• National Library of Kosovo Remarkable modernist building from 1982 designed by Andrija Mutnjakovic: 99 domes and a facade covered in wire mesh, free to admire from outside.
• Cathedral of Saint Mother Teresa Modern cathedral dedicated to the Kosovo-born Nobel Prize winner, free to visit.
• Ethnographic Museum Ottoman townhouse from the 18th century with insight into traditional Kosovar culture, admission around 1 euro.

Flights and transport from the Netherlands

There are no direct flights from the Netherlands to Pristina (PRN). Airlines such as Wizz Air, easyJet and Austrian Airlines fly with a connection in Vienna, Istanbul or London; total travel time around 5 to 7 hours. A return ticket typically costs 150 to 250 euros per person. From Pristina International Airport (18 km from the centre) a taxi to the centre costs around 20 euros; city buses also run for around 1 euro. The centre of Pristina is compact enough to explore largely on foot. Also worth considering nearby: Belgrade, Tirana and Skopje.

What does a Pristina city break cost?

Pristina is one of the cheapest capitals in Europe. Budget guesthouses start at 20 to 35 euros per night, mid-range hotels 45 to 70 euros. Food is extremely affordable: plate of grilled meat or burek 2 to 4 euros, restaurant meal 5 to 8 euros, coffee 1 euro. Museum entry is free or at most 2 euros. A long weekend in Pristina (3 nights, connecting flight, hotel and food) realistically starts around 250 euros per person including flights.
