May, June, September and October are ideal: 26 to 32 degrees with warm, swimmable sea without the extreme heat of July and August, when temperatures push 35 degrees or higher. The sea stays pleasantly warm into October. Outside the summer season the coast is mild, but many hotels and boat trips shut down.

- Saklikent gorge Wade through one of Turkey's longest canyons with ice-cold mountain water, about 50 km from Fethiye. Entry around 250 TL (approx €4.70).
- Kayakoy ghost village Walk through the abandoned Greek-Ottoman village, now an open-air museum. Entry around €3. Go early before the tour coaches arrive.
- Butterfly Valley Take a boat from Oludeniz to the remote Kelebekler Vadisi with its waterfall (return around 500 TL, approx €9.40).
- Patara One of the Mediterranean's longest beaches plus an ancient city, combined ticket around 750 TL (approx €14). Arrive early for shade from the ruins.
Flights + transport from the Netherlands
In the summer season TUI fly flies direct from Amsterdam to Dalaman (DLM) about twice a week in around 3 hours 55; Corendon also serves this coast from Amsterdam. There is no longer a direct flight from Eindhoven: from Eindhoven, Antalya is the Turkish option, but it sits much further along the coast. Dalaman airport is about 25 km from Fethiye and 50 to 60 km from Oludeniz; a shuttle or taxi takes you to your hotel.
The Lycian coast is vast and public transport (dolmus minibuses) is limited. Want to see Oludeniz, Saklikent, Kayakoy and Patara at your own pace? Then a rental car via DiscoverCars is by far the easiest way to explore the coast road and mountain villages. Budget in lira and carry cash, as local prices shift quickly. The dolmus to Oludeniz costs around 80-115 TL. Every Tuesday (Sali Pazari) there is a large local market in Fethiye, perfect for fresh produce and spices.
Insider tip: Kabak Koyu. About 25 km south of Oludeniz on the Lycian Way lies Kabak: a wild cove with no parasols and no commerce, free to enter. The descent is steep, but you will have the beach almost to yourself.
