When is the best time to go?

May and September are the sweet spot: pleasantly warm (18 to 22 degrees), low hotel prices and few tourists. June combines good weather with the run-up to the Le Voyage à Nantes festival. In July and August hotel prices rise by 30 to 40 per cent.

Flights + transport from the Netherlands

KLM flies several times a day direct from Schiphol to Nantes Atlantique (NTE) in 1 hour 30. Indicative return fare: around €140 to 200 when booked early, more in July and August.

No direct flights from Eindhoven; the quickest route is the train to Schiphol then KLM. Airport to city centre: shuttle bus for €10 per person (every 20 minutes, 20 minutes to the station), or taxi for €29 to 35. Tram and bus in the city cost €1.80 per trip, free on Saturdays and Sundays.
