When is the best time to visit Vancouver?

June to August is the driest and warmest: average 22°C, rarely raining, terraces full and all outdoor activities at their best. This is also the busiest and most expensive period. The sweet spot for price and quality is mid-May to mid-June and September: fewer crowds, lower hotel prices and pleasant weather (17-20°C).

In April thousands of Japanese cherry blossom trees bloom throughout the city, including Queen Elizabeth Park and along Burrard Street. Low season (November to March) is cloudy and rainy (4-7°C) but 40-50% cheaper than the summer peak.

Best neighbourhoods in Vancouver

• Gastown Vancouver's oldest neighbourhood (1867): cobblestone streets, red brick buildings and the famous steam clock on Water Street. In the side streets you'll find cocktail bars, street art and the best independent shops. In 2026, Water Street is car-free every Sunday.
• Granville Island Former industrial site transformed into a vibrant cultural hub. The Public Market has local producers, Asian street food and fresh Pacific seafood. Accessible by AquaBus miniferry from downtown.
• West End (next to Stanley Park) Densely built but liveable neighbourhood with hotel strips along Robson Street, right next to the park. Good base for Stanley Park and English Bay Beach.
• Kitsilano (Kits) Relaxed neighbourhood on the south side of English Bay. City beach with outdoor saltwater pool (Kits Pool, one of the longest in Canada). West 4th Avenue and Broadway offer local restaurants and yoga studios.
• North Shore (North/West Vancouver) Reachable by SeaBus in 15 minutes. Here you'll find Capilano Suspension Bridge, Lynn Canyon and Grouse Mountain: ideal for nature day trips.

• Stanley Park 405-hectare park right by the sea, bigger than Central Park. The 10 km Seawall along the water is one of Canada's finest walking and cycling routes. Entry: free. Bike rental: from CAD$15 per hour.
• Granville Island Public Market Free island access. Budget CAD$10-20 for food at the stalls: Pacific salmon, artisan cheeses and Thai street food.
• Lynn Canyon Park and Suspension Bridge Free suspension bridge over a deep ravine, swimming pools and rainforest trails. Parking CAD$5-8. The honest local alternative to Capilano.
• Capilano Suspension Bridge Park Bridge 70 metres above the Capilano River, plus Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk. Admission 2026: CAD$79.95 (adults). Free shuttle from downtown.
• Grouse Mountain Gondola to 1,200 metres, panorama over the whole city. Summer: hiking, grizzly bears and zip-lining. Winter: ski resort. Admission CAD$65-75.

Flights and transport

KLM flies daily non-stop from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in 9 hours 35 minutes (westbound). The return flight takes about 9 hours 15 minutes.

Flight number KL681/KL682. There are no direct flights from Eindhoven; take a train or bus to Schiphol and fly KLM. Prices from approximately €700 return in low season (October-November), €900 to 1,150 in the summer peak. Book 3 to 4 months in advance for the best prices and fly on Wednesday or Thursday if possible.

From YVR to downtown: the SkyTrain Canada Line runs from the airport to Waterfront Station or Vancouver City Centre in 25 minutes.
