The best neighbourhoods in Granada
- Albaicin UNESCO World Heritage site together with the Alhambra. Moorish old quarter with narrow cobbled streets and white-washed houses on a hill above the Darro river. The best panorama of the Alhambra is here: the Mirador San Nicolas. Explore on foot, allow at least half a day.
- Sacromonte Above the Albaicin: caves carved into the rock face where the Roma community has lived for centuries. Birthplace of Granada-style flamenco (zambra, intimate by candlelight in caves). Unique in all of Spain. Take bus C2 from Plaza Nueva.
- Realejo The former Jewish quarter. Fewer tourists, local bars and street art. A genuine residential neighbourhood with independent coffee shops and boutiques.
- Bib-Rambla/Centro The lively terrace square beside the Cathedral, with a flower market and cafes. The main hub for shopping and daily life in Granada.
- Carrera del Darro Scenic walking route along the Darro river between the Albaicin and the Alhambra hill. On your right the Alhambra walls tower above, on your left the back of the Albaicin. One of the most beautiful walks in Spain.
