When is the best time to visit?

May to September is ideal for Aarhus: 15 to 22 degrees Celsius, long Scandinavian evenings and the city in full swing. In July the Aarhus Jazz Festival takes place: 8 days, more than 300 concerts at 30 venues, largely free or for a few euros. In May cherry blossom opens along the Danish royal summer residence, great for beautiful photos without crowds. November to February is cold and dark; museums have shorter hours but lower entry prices.

Best neighbourhoods in Aarhus

• Latin Quarter (Latinerkvarteret) Cobblestone streets, half-timbered houses and terraces in the oldest part of the city. Similar to Amsterdam's Jordaan but quieter. Perfect start to your day.
• Frederiksbjerg The "larder of Aarhus": best casual restaurants, cafes and the Aarhus Street Food market. Local, no tourist crowds.
• Aarhus O (Harbour Island) Former container port transformed into an architectural showpiece. In summer locals swim and sauna in the harbour water at Basin 7.
• Trojborg North of the centre, buzzing neighbourhood with a viewpoint and panoramic views as a local secret.
• Marselisborg Danish royal summer palace with an adjacent deer park (Dyrehaven) with free-roaming sika deer.

There are no direct flights from Eindhoven to Aarhus. From Schiphol, SAS or KLM fly daily to Aarhus Airport (AAR) with a connection in Copenhagen or another Scandinavian hub; total journey time about 3.5 hours, return tickets 100 to 180 euros booked early. A smart alternative: fly to Copenhagen (KLM daily, sometimes cheaper) and take the Molslinjen high-speed ferry Copenhagen to Aarhus in 1 hour (approx. 25 euros).
